OUR

FOUNDATION

The Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation was founded by Katarzyna Kozyra in 2012 in Warsaw. Her road to national and international recognition was long and not easy. For that reason, she established a Foundation to help female artists and women working in culture in Eastern-Central Europe promote their work.

We are small but we know that we can make changes. During last 14 years our projects and everyday work have been dedicated to the values we believe in. In a nutshell, it is:

  • To fight against invisible barriers.
  • To question social norms that legitimize the low representation of women in art.
  • To build a strong professional community and a social network around the female art in Eastern-Central Europe.

Since the creation of  Foundation, we’ve organized a lot of projects, exhibitions and festivals. We help women in art to promote their work, shoot documentaries, publish books. We are working with the most fascinating female artists of the Eastern-Central Europe – both young and aged, famous and unknown, recognized and unfairly forgotten. All these artists point out different roles and perspectives for women in culture and we are happy to support them.

OUR MAIN AREAS OF ACTIVITY:

INTERNATIONAL ARCHIVAL AND RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Foundation develops long-term research and archival projects dedicated to the history and contemporary practices of women artists, with a particular focus on Central and Eastern Europe. The key project is Secondary Archive — an international digital platform documenting the statements, practices, and experiences of women artists as a vital source of knowledge about art history and the history of the region. These initiatives are research-based, educational, and international in scope, aiming to build a sustainable knowledge infrastructure on women’s artistic practices.

PRODUCTION OF EXHIBITIONS AND ARTISTIC PROJECTS

The Foundation produces and co-produces exhibitions, artistic projects, and public programmes in collaboration with cultural institutions in Poland and abroad. These include, among others, exhibition projects (such as the programme Przeciw(stawanie)), film and research projects, performative events, panel discussions, and public programmes accompanying exhibitions and artistic initiatives. These activities combine the production of new artistic works with curatorial and research development.

SUPPORT FOR ARTISTS, ARCHITECTS, AND RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Foundation runs programmes supporting women artists, architects, and researchers through open calls, seminars, curatorial projects, and research initiatives addressing the representation of women in art and public space. These activities include projects such as Architektoniczki, dedicated to gender perspectives in urban planning, mobility programmes, educational initiatives, and research-oriented events, including Exploratory Night Walks and seminar series.

These efforts focus on strengthening the visibility of women in culture, supporting their professional development, and fostering long-term collaboration between artists, curators, researchers, and cultural institutions.

ARCHIVAL AND DIGITALISATION ACTIVITIES

A key pillar of the Foundation’s work is the development, digitalisation, and long-term archiving of artistic materials, including the archive of Katarzyna Kozyra’s artistic practice. These activities involve the digitalisation of video materials, photographs, and project documentation, as well as their research processing and dissemination within exhibition, publication, and educational contexts.

RESEARCH, PUBLICATIONS, AND EXPERT ACTIVITY

The Foundation conducts research projects on the presence of women in art, art history, and the institutional structures of the cultural field. It produces reports, publications, seminars, conferences, and educational programmes, advancing critical and feminist perspectives in research on contemporary art and architecture.
