15th of March 2024, at 6:00 p.m. CET 15 female artists from Ukraine will join Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation’s Secondary Archive platform within the framework of the project ‘Secondary Archive. Women Artists in War’ implemented with Artsvit Gallery, Dnipro and Labyrinth Gallery, Lublin.
The event will culminate in the first part of the project, ‘Secondary Archive. Women Artists in War’, which aims to present the practices of female artists working primarily with the experiences of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
During the event, curators of the project from Ukraine will talk about the process of curatorial work in the face of the war conflict and the works of Ukrainian women artists. As Iryna Polikarchuk, Director of Artsvit Gallery, says: “The presentation of the first part of the Ukrainian part of the Archive took place just a few hours before the full-scale invasion – on the evening of February 23, 2022. We consider this project very important now, as it not only pays attention to women’s artistic practice in Ukraine but also archives the intangible heritage of wartime from women’s experience. This allows us to reflect in real-time on the lived experience and changes that occurred in the work of female artists after February 24, 2022. It is also a special opportunity to remind the world art community that the war continues, and there are many women at the front, including some of the participants of the new edition of the Archive.”
During the implementation of the second part of the project, 15 female participants will be invited to participate in an exhibition at the Galeria Labirynt in Lublin, which is scheduled to open in spring 2024.
The statements of female artists from Ukraine, as well as new critical essays by local curators, will be available from the 15th of March at secondaryarchive.org

15 березня 2024 року о 19:00 (за Києвом) 15 художниць з України приєднаються до платформи Secondary Archive в рамках проєкту «Secondary Archive. Художниці у війні», реалізованого Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation спільно з галереєю Артсвіт (Дніпро) та Galeria Labirynt (Люблін).
Кульмінацією події стане онлайн-презентація нової едиції проєкту «Secondary Archive. Художниці у війні», яка має на меті представити практики художниць, що працюють передусім із досвідом повномасштабного вторгнення росії в Україну. Під час заходу кураторки проєкту з України розкажуть про мистецькі практики в умовах війни та творчість українських художниць. 5 учасниць було відібрано міжнародним журі за результатами open call, ще 10 обрали кураторки української частини Архіву.
«Презентація першої частини українського Архіву відбулась буквально за кілька годин до повномасштабного вторгнення – ввечері 23 лютого 2022 року. Ми вважаємо цей проєкт дуже важливим зараз, оскільки він не лише привертає увагу до мистецької практики жінок в Україні, але й архівує нематеріальну спадщину воєнного часу з досвіду жінки. Це дозволяє в режимі реального часу рефлексувати прожитий досвід та зміни, які відбулись в творчості художниць після 24 лютого 2022 року. Також це спеціальна можливість нагадувати світовій мистецькій спільноті про те, що війна триває, і на фронті є багато жінок, в тому числі, деякі учасниці нової едиції Архіву», — Ірина Полікарчук, директорка галереї Артсвіт.
Під час реалізації другої частини проєкту ми запросимо 15 учасниць до участі у виставці в Galeria Labirynt у Любліні, відкриття якої заплановане на весну 2024 року.
Висловлювання художниць з України, а також нові критичні есе кураторок проєкту будуть доступні з 15 березня на secondaryarchive.org.
