FOUNDATION

The Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation was founded by Katarzyna Kozyra in 2012 in Warsaw. Her road to national and international recognition was long and not easy. For that reason, she established a Foundation to help female artists and women working in culture in Eastern-Central Europe promote their work.

We are small but we know that we can make changes. During last 11 years our projects and everyday work have been dedicated to the values we believe in. In a nutshell, it is:

• To fight against invisible barriers.
• To question social norms that legitimize the low representation of women in art.
• To build a strong professional community and a social network around the female art in Eastern-Central Europe.

Since the creation of  Foundation, we’ve organized a lot of projects, exhibitions and festivals. We help women in art to promote their work, shoot documentaries, publish books. We are working with the most fascinating female artists of the Eastern-Central Europe – both young and aged, famous and unknown, recognized and unfairly forgotten. All these artists point out different roles and perspectives for women in culture and we are happy to support them.

The Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation operates across a number of fields, including:

MONITORING: THE PRESENCE OF WOMEN IN ART INSTITUTIONS AND ART MARKET.

Apparently, equal presence of women in the cultural system is a very fragile state that requires constant control. As a continuation of the “Little Chance to Advance” survey from 2016, the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation is monitoring the situation of women in selected areas of cultural life in Poland in the changing situation after 2015. We are analyzing the changes taking place in the management teams in cultural institutions, the participation of women in competitions to positions in public institutions and private galleries, as well as the salary gap between women and men art workers.

SUPPORT YOUNG FEMALE ARTISTS AND ARCHITECTS.

The Foundation holds meetings and discussions focused on investigating the reason for the low representation of women in international architecture and history of art.

SECONDARY ARCHIVE: EASTERN-CENTRAL EUROPEAN WOMEN ARTISTS.

The project aims to create an online archive and a platform for cooperation between artists and art institutions in Central and Eastern Europe in order to discover, rediscover and promote the most valuable women artists.

DISCOVERING and REDISCOVERING FEMALE ARTISTS.

A series of exhibitions, seminars and lectures finalized to rediscover great women that produced colossal changes in the society and art, but are generally unknown.
