Slim Chances… LET’S CHECK!

In 2025, it will be ten years since the release of the publication “Slim Chances for Promotion? A Report on the Presence of Women in Art Academies in Poland”, which was based on a study conducted by a team commissioned by the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation.*

The study addressed the issue of the glass ceiling faced by women within academic structures. In 2015, 70% of students at visual arts academies in Poland were women, yet only 30% of academic staff were women. “Slim Chances for Promotion?” remains one of the most significant publications on the topic of equal opportunities within Polish fine arts academies, and it has also become an important tool for members of other sectors.

Ten years later is the right moment to say: “LET’S CHECK!”

“Slim Chances… LET’S CHECK!” is a nationwide research project aimed at comparing results and updating data. The new report will premiere in December.

We are CHECKING which problems have been overcome, which new ones have emerged, and what has remained unchanged.

We are CHECKING the education, experiences, role models, aspirations, plans, and networks of women in the academies today — and how these essential factors influence the shaping of their artistic career paths, which begin during their studies.

We are CHECKING to update the data, which could help improve the situation for both students and staff at visual arts institutions.

The project is an initiative of the Katarzyna Kozyra Foundation.

The study is being conducted by the Faculty of Sociology at Adam Mickiewicz University.

The task is funded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
