WORKSHOPS

Workshop by Ewa Charkiewicz

Neoliberalism, both conservative and liberal, has changed living conditions of women and men, their identity, long-term relationship with the market and the state as well as the structure of various institutions. It has also established the new boundaries between women standing on both sides of an economic barricade. What’s more, the feminist imagination has been altered by the same neoliberal conceptual framework. The problem of the arbitrary divisions made by academic circles, segregating feminism into: marxist, socialist, liberal and radical, is that it separates theory and life practice. According to Karen Ruddy, nowadays neoliberal feminism evicts, “expropriates” as she puts it, left-wing and liberal feminism from the public discourse. Is the idea of feminism understood as “New Social Criticism” salvageable ? What is the role of socially involved art practices and knowledge production?
