A lecturer at the Department of Ethics at the Institute of Philosophy at the University of Warsaw. She focuses on the history of ethical ideas, applied ethics, political philosophy and women's issues. Since 1993, she is the editor of the “Etyka” magazine and a member of the Scientific Council of the “Philosophical Review”. She collaborates with the European Institute for Gender Equality in Vilnius and former member of the European Monitoring Centre on Racism and Xenophobia in Vienna. She is also the founder and director of Postgraduate Studies in Ethics and Philosophy (UW), a member of the Ethics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Council of the Institute of Public Affairs as well as the Societas / Communitas. She writes columns for ”Gazeta Wyborcza” and weekly columns for ”Wprost”. Środa served as the Minister Plenipotentiary for Equal Status of Women and Men in the government of Marek Belka. Awarded with a Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta.
